Audrey McCain was born in Plaquemine, Louisiana, in 1957, where she currently resides and operates her law office. She graduated Salutatorian of her class from St. John High School in 1975, and began working as a legal secretary for two attorneys in a local firm. In 1979, she entered LSU on a part-time basis while continuing to work full-time for the two attorneys. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from LSU in 1984 in Business with an emphasis in Accounting. Ms. McCain graduated from Southern University Law Center in 1987. While in law school, she worked for the 18th Judicial District Court judges as a law clerk before opening her own law firm. She was admitted to the Louisiana State Bar in October, 1987 and began remodeling an old house directly across the street from the Iberville Parish Courthouse to use has a law office. Ms. McCain opened for business in January, 1988, where it continues today.

In 1992, Ms. McCain was selected to the St. John Athletic Hall of Fame. In 1993, she entered public service by being elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives for District 60, representing parts of Ascension, Assumption, Iberville and West Baton Rouge Parishes. She was re-elected in 1995 for another term which concluded in December, 1999. Also in 1995, she was awarded the Athena Award by the Iberville Chamber of Commerce for being named the Outstanding Female Business Owner in the parish. Ms. McCain currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Iberville Parish Council on Substance Abuse.

Ms. McCain is a former Assistant Public Defender having handled over 300 felonies per year and she was formerly an Adjunct Professor of Law at Southern University Law Center. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association, the Baton Rouge Bar Association, and elected President of the 18th Judicial District Bar Association. Ms. McCain is a member of the Lupus Foundation, Inc. and formerly served on its Board of Directors.

While serving in the Louisiana Legislature in only her first full term, Ms. McCain was selected for the leadership role of Vice Chairman of the Administration of Criminal Justice Committee. In this capacity she obtained valuable insight into the regulatory aspects of the gaming laws, since the Committee had oversight over all State Police and Louisiana Gaming Board Regulations. Additionally, she was appointed by the Governor to the Cost Containment Committee of the State Indigent Defender Board, the Louisiana Task Force for Divorcing Parents, the Louisiana Coordinating Council Against Domestic Violence, and appointed by the Speaker of the House to the Task Force for P.O.S.T. Certification Training of Police Officers. Some of the awards Ms. McCain received as a member of the Louisiana Legislature are: Legislator of the Month by the Louisiana Municipal Association, Friend of the Parishes by the Louisiana Police Jury Association, Outstanding Legislator Award by the Victims and Citizen’s Against Crime, Inc., and Outstanding Service Award by the Louisiana Association of Educators.

Areas of Practice Include: all aspects of family law (divorce, custody, child support, spousal support, visitation, and community property); Constitutional defense of persons accused of crimes; real estate transactions (sales, donations, mortgages, and refinancing); attorney chairman for medical review panels; personal injury; creation of business associations (corporations, partnerships, L.L.C.’s, L.L.P.’s); tax preparation for individuals and businesses; trained and certified mediator; and gaming regulations.
